Seth and I got pizza for dinner tonight, so while he was grabbing the order, I took this shot of the plume from Abbott Power Plant:

We lit candles for the third night of Hanukkah tonight:
I also got my hair cut again today. My hair dresser loved it (he’s very into his work). I think I like it, too, but will have to see how it looks when it’s not blown dry and flat ironed…
We prepared a delicious dinner tonight for some friends consisting of challah, latkes, roast chicken with carrots and onions, peas with shallots and mint, and apple sauce. Here are some of the fruits and veggies:
You may recall the baked shells from a few days ago… well, we’ve eaten all the shells and were left with a dirty dish:
In an attempt to prove to Seth that you don’t have to pre-wash everything that goes into the dishwasher, I put this bad boy in to get washed just as you see it here. The results were highly in my favor:
The pond behind our house has begun to freeze since it’s been so cold (it was 7F when I woke up):
Today we had wind gusts up to 50 mph. And the low temperature was 13F and the windchill was below zero. The chimes were having a heyday:

We recently got a new “toy” to make the winter nights slightly more bearable: an electric blanket! We use it to pre-warm the bed and then leave it off while we’re sleeping. It’s such a treat to get into a warm bed at night… this is the controller for the blanket:

I get to see dawn pretty often this time of year because the dog gets walked right before the sun comes us. We had a beautiful (cold) morning today… note the ice forming on the lake:
I also went to a holiday potluck tonight and took a portrait of my hosts’ Christmas tree star:
My other daily gadget (besides my camera) is my iPod. It’s ancient by technology standards (I think I got it in Dec 2003??), but still does the job, for the most part:

Scout fell asleep in another ridiculous position tonight, but the best part was that she had her tongue sticking out:
This bug was on our front door today. I think he’s probably dead, but hard to know (since I didn’t want to touch him).
I love beets and eat about 3 or 4 every week. Here are some freshly boiled beets ready for salads:

Today we took a day trip to Nevada City, CA. It’s a very cute former mining town with shops and restaurants to check out. One of my favorite parts of the trip was this parking meter, which lets you know when you should probably just go back to bed:
