Day 120: Marathoner
Today’s Illinois Marathon ran right by our house. The photo was taken right around 9AM (about 2 hours into the race). Our house is between miles 21 and 22 of the course, which means this dude was averaging more than … Continue reading
Day 119: My real favorite tree
Our neighborhood has some unbelievable flowering trees right now. This is one I pass on my way to and from the bus stop. Holy gorgeous, batman: And here are its petals up-close:

Day 118: Tree update again
Unfortunately it was late afternoon (as I’m sure you can tell by the shadows) when I snapped this photo, so the lighting isn’t great, but my favorite tree is really filling out:

Day 117: Prelim presentation
Earlier today I turned in my written prelim proposal to my committee. Now it’s time to work on finalizing my presentation slides. One of the best things about my research group is that we always give practice talks to each … Continue reading

Day 116: Rain-swept petals
Scout and I saw these pretty fallen petals on our dog walk today:
Day 115: Traveling socks
Due to some ridiculous weather/airline fiascoes, we ended up having to drive home to Champaign from O’Hare today. Seth kindly did the driving for this leg of the trip, so I got to put my feet up:
Day 114: Easter egg hunt!
The tradition of easter egg hunting at Nanny and PopPop’s that my (23ish) first cousins and I enjoyed 20 years ago continues today with first cousins once removed:

Day 113: Painted toes
While home this weekend I was able to get a pedicure (first one since mid-January). My toes were in desperate need of some help and now they look lovely:
Day 112: Storm
We’ve had a lot of rain and a bunch of thunderstorms lately. Today was no exception (and has already started making our travel to PA today interesting with one canceled flight):
Day 111: Mom’s gift
My mom commissioned the jeweler who designed my engagement ring and our wedding bands to make an enhancer pendant for her pearl necklace. I picked it up from his shop today and it’s gorgeous!

Day 110: Vessel
Another work thing… I’m trying to find a gasket or flange to work with one of our adsorption vessels to keep it from leaking under vacuum… so I had to measure the top:

Day 109: GC
This week is very busy work-wise, so you will get lots of work photos. Today I spent some time trying to figure out how to get this old (c. 1990) gas chromatograph running again. Here’s one view of it:

Day 108: Bus seat
I got to ride a new hybrid bus today. It has the same seat fabric as the older buses, except that these are much cleaner:

Day 107: Scout!
I’m sure you’re all missing photos of Scout-pup. So here she is:
Day 106: Moon
We went out to dinner in campustown tonight. The moon was lovely:
Day 105: Flowers and sky
A storm rolled in this evening bringing grey skies. Luckily the tree outside our front door has pretty flowers that make the cloudy skies slightly more cheerful:

Day 104: Coat rack
We don’t have a closet near our entryway, so instead we have this shelf with hooks. I’ve basically taken it over, so hardly any of this stuff is Seth’s (oops)…

Day 103: Tulips
Our neighbor planted these tulips at our driveway entrance a few years ago. Usually they die when the rocks get too hot, but so far they’re happy as can be:

Day 102: Tree update
An update on my neighborhood tree:
Day 101: Front yard spring
The oft-neglected (in the photography sense) front area of our house (I’m sparing you the ugly bits, like where the grass is dead and wood chips have killed the ground cover):
